Organizational Development
Is your current organization:
- Designed to meet business goals?
- Functioning as designed?
- Supported with the skills required?
In today’s changing business environment, no one is really sure which way the economy is going to go… or when. When the economy is good, companies generally invest in capacity and improvements that they hope will help them beat the competition and increase their market share. When the economy is bad, those same companies will be looking to rationalize or consolidate to improve their asset utilization and reduce costs. The key is knowing which way to turn to get ahead of the curve.
The MTG approach to organizational development focuses on enabling the organization to make changes that quickly create the capability to not only survive, but actually thrive in a highly competitive marketplace.
There have been many technological fads over the last 30 years that address the needs of business. However, few (if any) have succeeded in redesigning business to optimize the use of the asset base and move the focus outward to serve the market. The truly agile organization—one that exploits change—will have realigned its people (from the shop floor to the boardroom) in total support of a new mission: serving the customer.
The Right Set of Tools
MTG has the assessment and implementation tools that can help your organization determine where opportunities exist to improve its alignment and performance, quantify the associated benefits, and then implement the identified changes.
Specific tools and diagnostics include:
- Analysis logic
- Focus interviews
- Day-In-the-Life-Of studies
- Leadership Effectiveness Survey
- Overall Operational Effectiveness model
- Organization Interface and Integration Assessment
- Business Process Reengineering
- Spans and layers design
- Change management
- Skills and process training
- Individual coaching
- Supervisory skills development
MTG’s assessment tools are based on quantitative as well as qualitative diagnostics.
- The analysis logic provides direction to the assessment team to ensure that all assessment activities are focused on achieving the business goals and objectives.
- Focus interviews point the team to the areas of opportunity.
- Evaluation of spans and layers provides key indicators into the effectiveness of management and the organization.
- Day-In-the-Life-Of studies are one-on-one sessions around a typical day’s activities. They are based on the idea of walking a mile in the other person’s shoes to see what they see.
- The focus of the Leadership Effectiveness Survey is on specific leadership behaviors concerning people, products, and performance.
- The Organizational Interface and Integration Assessment helps define organizational alignment issues and assists in determining the organizational barriers and attitudes that impede success.
- The Overall Operational Effectiveness model serves as a benchmark of current organizational effectiveness and as a measurement of continuous improvement goals and progress. This is one of the main tools that starts out as an assessment diagnostic and then transitions to an implementation tool.
MTG’s other implementation tools include a variety of change management techniques that focus on mobilizing and engaging the organization at all levels and managing resistance to change. As To-Be organizational models and associated processes take shape, MTG’s implementation team develops and delivers specific skills and process training around the new way of doing business (e.g., AlphaLeanSM leader training).
A particular focus of the MTG approach is on the first- and second-line supervisory levels in an organization. It is MTG’s firm belief that these groups are major keys to success and are often vastly underutilized. A hallmark of MTG’s approach to this group is the individual coaching that each supervisor receives. This enables the MTG professional to observe supervisors in actual practice and provide them with timely feedback on their people process skills and their compliance with the new way of doing business.
A foundation of this coaching approach is the organizational managementprocess that MTG installs as a part of the To-Be process model. This includes the use of MTG’s proven Execution Control SystemSMand the associated metrics, management reporting systems, and techniques.
Implementation Expertise
As part of the implementation process, MTG uses the Accelerated Change Process (ACP) methodology to quickly mobilize a work group around a specific problem area in order to demonstrate significant change and generate immediate bottom-line results. This event-based approach is blended with the longer term one-on-one coaching methodology to generate short-term benefits. The longer term processes are then put into place to ensure the benefits are sustainable.
MTG’s powerful implementation support has been proven to create extremely effective organizations. We will be there every step of the way to assist you in achieving the desired results.
