Downstream Services - Asset Care
Is your “asset care” just “asset repair”?
Our years of experience in Maintenance and Reliability have helped us understand some of the most common technical and tactical symptoms of poorly performing maintenance/reliability functions, symptoms beyond the readily apparent spiraling costs, increased downtime and poor productivity.
Structural (Organizational) Issues:
- “My supervisors are progress chasers. My planners are purchasing agents. Nobody is doing what he should be doing.”
- “I am using contractors much more often. I am not sure I am getting maximum value from them.”
- “Some crafts have too much to do, some not enough. We are incurring huge amounts of overtime, but are not moving forward.”
Managerial (Control) Issues:
- “We spent millions installing a CMMS, and it just doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to. It’s not working FOR me.”
- “We are spending way too much. We could operate more cheaply, but I am not sure what to cut or how to cut it.”
- “I don’t know how to get better. I have no benchmarks, no scorecard, nothing to tell me where to focus our efforts.”
Technical (Process) Issues:
- “We are repairing breakdowns rather than performing preventive maintenance. How do I change the balance?”
- “Turnarounds are getting longer and longer. We are making basic mistakes. I am sure we could become faster.”
- “My assets are simply not performing as well as I know they can. Availability and reliability were better in the past, despite the constant upgrades. I know it’s not the fault of our equipment.”
Tactical (Behavioral) Issues:
- “We seem to be repeating the same repairs over and over again. We don’t seem to learn from our mistakes.”
- “I can’t be everywhere at once. I know my supervisors and foremen need coaching, but I don’t know how to help them all.”
- “My craft people just aren’t productive or skilled enough. Our backlog is growing because we can’t execute work orders fast enough.”
If any one (or any combination) of these symptoms sounds familiar, your Maintenance and Reliability programs may be in need of an overhaul themselves. MTG has an approach that will quickly allow us to craft a change program that is right for your specific needs… one that not only produces measurable results, but just as importantly, is bought into by your rank and file. In short, it lasts.
